Shiriee Arce Discovers Family Fun Done Right in Riviera Cancún

I booked Royalton Splash Riviera Cancun because I wanted to experience firsthand what an all-inclusive family resort could really deliver. As someone who often works with couples seeking quiet luxury, I needed to understand the family side of things, to see whether a resort designed around kids could still feel like a vacation for the adults. Located in the Puerto Morelos area, just 15 to 20 minutes south of Cancún International Airport, the transfer alone made it appealing. When you're traveling with a family, spending half your arrival day in a shuttle isn't anyone's idea of fun.
What struck me immediately was how the resort itself becomes the entertainment. You don't have to constantly plan excursions or figure out what to do with the kids because there's genuinely so much happening right on property. The water park is the big draw, with 14 slides, splash areas and two lazy rivers, but it's everything beyond the water park that makes this place work for families.
A Different Kind of Family Vacation

The Kids Club, beach activities, nightly entertainment and Game Up (where you can pay extra for bowling, laser tag and the trampoline park) mean the kids have options all day long. But here's what surprised me: the adults don't have to sacrifice having a vacation either. You can relax by the pool or beach while the kids have their own activities, then come back together for dinner and entertainment. With 12 restaurants on property, there's enough variety that you're not eating the same thing every day.
What I didn't expect was how much this resort could work for couples, too. Yes, it's clearly a family resort, but there's a spa, multiple restaurants and bars, the beach, evening entertainment and even an adults-only French restaurant called Ma Maison. If you're a couple who likes a lively atmosphere, good food and activities, and doesn't mind being around families, you could absolutely have a great time here. And honestly, if you're the type of couple who likes to be a little kid at heart, the water park and Game Up activities aren't exactly off-limits to adults.
The Little Details That Matter

One thing I realized firsthand is that the age of your kids really matters when recommending this resort. A family with younger kids, tweens or teens can have very different experiences here because there are activities that appeal to different age groups. The resort has a supervised Kids Club for ages 4 to 12, plus sports and all the water park attractions. That's something I couldn't really understand from simply looking at the resort online.
My insider tip? Don't feel pressured to book an excursion every day. You can spend the morning at the water park, grab lunch, hang out by the pool or beach, let the kids enjoy the activities, have dinner at one of the restaurants and finish the night with entertainment. When you're traveling with a family, that convenience is priceless.
Who This Resort Is Really For

If you're traveling with kids, tweens or teens and you want a vacation that's easy, this resort is an effortless choice. You don't have to spend every morning figuring out what excursion to book or where to take the kids. The fun is already right there. I'd especially recommend it for families who want everyone to be entertained without having to plan something every day.
But if you're looking for peace and quiet, romance and a slower pace, I'd skip this one. This is not the resort I'd choose for a quiet couples getaway where you want to spend your days reading by the pool with barely a sound around you.
Because I've experienced Royalton Splash firsthand, I can now ask my clients better questions about their kids, their ages, and how their family actually likes to vacation. Do the parents want their kids entertained while they have some downtime? Do they want a resort where everyone can do their own thing but still come together? Those answers completely change my recommendation. Now, instead of sending a client a list of family resorts, I can say, "This is what I would choose for your family, and here's why."
