We Came for the Scenery. We Stayed for the Moments That Changed Us

When my husband and I started planning this trip, the goal was simple: cruise around New Zealand, then road trip through Australia to visit our daughter. We'd booked a cruise ourselves, mapped out some loose plans, and figured we had it under control. But then Misti stepped in and saw something we hadn't. She helped us find better flights and switched us to a cruise with a far better itinerary than the one we'd originally chosen. That small intervention changed everything.

The moment we arrived in New Zealand, I understood why people cross the world to see this place. The scenery was spectacular everywhere we went, but it was the fiords that stopped me in my tracks. Standing on deck as we moved through those towering walls of rock and mist, watching the water stretch out impossibly still beneath us, I felt like I was seeing something ancient and untouched. It was the kind of view that makes you forget to take photos because you're too busy trying to hold onto it with your eyes.

A Country Seen Through Different Eyes

Australia surprised us in ways we hadn't anticipated. Yes, the beaches were stunning, and the wildlife was everywhere we turned. But what struck us most was something harder to photograph: the work-life balance. People moved differently there, unhurried and present. It shifted something in us, made us slow down and pay attention to the pace of our own lives back home.

The real gift, though, was spending time with our daughter and her boyfriend. They didn't just host us. They became our guides, showing us their Australia, the places they loved, the spots that meant something to them. There's a difference between seeing a beautiful country and having someone who lives there help you discover it. That's what they gave us. Every beach, every drive, every meal felt like a gift because we were sharing it with them.

Peace of Mind That Let Us Be Present

Here's the thing about travel: it's easy to get lost in the logistics. But knowing that our flights, transfers, and cruise were all booked and handled gave us the kind of peace of mind that let us actually be present. We weren't checking confirmations or worrying about connections. We were watching the sun set over Australian coastlines. We were laughing with our daughter at a seaside café. We were there, fully, because someone else had taken care of the details.

We loved every minute. I don't say that lightly. There are trips where you have highlights and lowlights, moments you'd skip if you could do it again. This wasn't one of those trips. From the first morning in New Zealand to the last evening with our daughter, it all mattered.

Already Dreaming of What's Next

We're home now, but my mind keeps wandering back to those fiords, to the Australian beaches, to the way our daughter smiled when she showed us her favorite spots. And already, we're dreaming of what's next. Scotland. Ireland. The UK. Portugal. There's a whole list forming, places we've always wanted to see, stories we still want to live.

When we start planning Portugal, I know who I'll reach out to. Misti didn't just book us a trip. She saw a better version of what we wanted and made it happen. That's not something you forget. And honestly, it's not something I want to try to do without again.
