I Traveled Solo to the Middle East. A Stranger Changed Everything.

United Arab Emirates travel story

I walked into a small Iranian kebab restaurant in Dubai, alone. The famous place had come recommended, but I didn't know what to expect. Before I could fumble through my order, the owner came over. He didn't just bring food to my table. He sat down with me, showed me exactly how to eat it, and stayed to talk. In that moment, halfway around the world from home, I felt more welcomed than I had in years.

That's the thing nobody tells you about traveling solo in the Middle East. I went to Dubai and Oman because I wanted to see everything the region had to offer. I'd heard the stories, had the usual hesitations. But something in me needed to go anyway. When I started planning, I reached out to Kim Greco because I'd heard she was the advisor who gets it. I wasn't wrong.

The Journey Unfolds

United Arab Emirates travel story

Kim planned my Dubai portion and Oman, and she knew exactly what I wanted to experience. The desert safari in Dubai was pure magic. There's nothing quite like watching the sun drop over endless sand while your vehicle climbs the dunes, the landscape golden and ancient all at once. My day trip to Abu Dhabi opened up another world entirely, grand and gleaming, a different rhythm from Dubai's energy.

But it was Oman that truly surprised me. The mosque there stopped me in my tracks. Standing inside, learning about the history behind its design, I felt the weight of centuries pressing gently on my shoulders. This wasn't just beautiful architecture. It was a living story, and I got to walk through it.

What surprised me most about this entire trip was how safe I felt. Everywhere I went, there were no barriers, no moments of fear. I could wander freely through souks and streets, enter sacred spaces, sit alone in restaurants. The worry I'd carried before the trip dissolved within the first few days. These places welcomed me without reservation.

The Little Things That Mattered

Kim had booked me at the Rove La Mar in Dubai, and it was perfect. The location, the vibe, everything matched exactly what I needed as a solo traveler. It became my anchor in a city that never stops moving. But beyond the hotel, it was the human moments that made this trip unforgettable. That kebab restaurant owner who sat with me, teaching me to eat properly, treating me like a friend instead of a tourist. That's the Middle East I discovered. Generous, warm, and nothing like the stories people tell.

Traveling solo felt liberating in a way I hadn't anticipated. There's something about navigating a new world on your own terms, trusting your instincts, and finding that the world trusts you back. I moved through Dubai and Oman with a freedom I didn't know I needed until I had it.

Already Dreaming of Return

I'm not done with this region. Not even close. I'm already planning to go back to Dubai and spend more time in Oman. From there, Thailand is only four hours by plane, so who knows where this door leads next. What I do know is that Kim Greco will be the one planning it. She understood what I was looking for before I could fully articulate it myself. When someone gets you like that, you don't let go.

If you're thinking about the Middle East and wondering if it's right for you, especially if you're traveling solo, I have one thing to say. Go. The warmth you'll find there is real. The safety is real. And with the right advisor in your corner, everything falls into place. I came home changed, already looking at the calendar for my next trip. Some doors, once opened, don't close again.
