Britt Jamieson Celebrates 50 in Cabo With Friends and Insider Know-How

On my decades of visits to Cabo San Lucas, I've learned it's perfect for adult celebrations and couples seeking romance, with exceptional restaurants beyond the resorts and swimmable beaches reachable by water taxi. Most resort beaches aren't swimmable, but the genuine hospitality and nightlife keep me returning; I steer families with young children toward better-suited destinations.
I've been traveling to Cabo San Lucas since I was 16 years old. That's more than three decades of watching this destination evolve, of discovering its best restaurants, learning its rhythms, and understanding what makes it truly special. So when it came time to celebrate my 50th birthday, there was really only one place that felt right. I gathered 11 of my closest girlfriends, and we headed to Sandos Finisterra Los Cabos for a celebration I'll never forget.
There's something about a milestone birthday that makes you want to be surrounded by the people who know you best, in a place that feels like a second home. Cabo delivered on both counts. We spent our days exactly as a group of lifelong friends should: laughing until our sides hurt, soaking up the Mexican sun, and making memories that we'll be talking about for years to come.
The highlight was hiring a private boat for the day. Picture this: 12 women on the water, the rugged coastline of Baja California stretching behind us, music playing, and not a single moment that wasn't filled with joy. Every photo from that day captures genuine happiness. That's what Cabo does when you do it right. It creates space for connection, for celebration, for letting go of everyday stress and simply being present with the people you love.
What Visitors Don't Expect
Here's something I find myself explaining to clients all the time: most of the beaches where the major resorts sit are not swimmable. The Pacific currents along much of the Cabo coastline are simply too strong. First-time visitors are often surprised, even disappointed, when they realize they can't just wade into the water from their resort. But here's the insider knowledge that changes everything. You can easily hire a boat or take a water taxi to beaches where swimming is absolutely safe and wonderful. Spend a day at Playa del Amor or explore some of the smaller coves, and you'll have the beach experience you were dreaming of. Knowing this in advance transforms a potential frustration into an adventure.
What continues to surprise me, even after all these years, is the warmth of the people. The staff at resorts and restaurants genuinely want you to have an incredible time. That hospitality isn't performative. It's cultural, and it makes every interaction feel personal.
Beyond the All-Inclusive
Even though most visitors stick to their all-inclusive resorts (and those resorts are wonderful), I always encourage my clients to venture out for at least one or two meals. Cabo has an extraordinary food scene that rivals any major culinary destination. Some of the best restaurants I've ever eaten at, anywhere in the world, are in Los Cabos. The fresh seafood, the innovative Mexican cuisine, the sunset views paired with expertly crafted cocktails. Missing out on the local dining scene means missing a significant part of what makes this destination exceptional.
This trip reinforced something I already knew but now feel even more strongly about: Cabo is perfect for couples, girlfriend getaways, and adult celebrations like weddings or milestone birthdays. It's sophisticated, it's relaxed, and it caters beautifully to grown-up travelers who want excellent service and memorable experiences. However, I wouldn't recommend it for families with young children. While some resorts do accommodate families, there are simply better destinations for that type of trip.
Celebrating my 50th birthday in a place I've loved for over 30 years, surrounded by my favorite people, reminded me exactly why I do what I do. I don't just recommend destinations. I know them intimately. And that knowledge allows me to help my clients avoid the pitfalls, discover the best experiences, and create celebrations that exceed their expectations. Cabo will always hold a special place in my heart, and I cannot wait to help others fall in love with it too.
