Anita Magnoli's Two Unforgettable Stays in Ocho Rios, Jamaica

Some resorts stay with you long after you leave. Moon Palace Jamaica Grand in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, is one of those places for me. I first visited in 2017 on an educational group trip, and when I had the opportunity to return in 2019, I knew I had to experience it all over again. That second visit only confirmed what I already suspected: this resort offers something truly remarkable.
As a travel advisor, I believe in experiencing destinations firsthand. It's one thing to read about a resort's amenities or study a fact sheet. It's another thing entirely to walk the grounds in the evening, to taste the food, to feel the warm Jamaican hospitality wrap around you from the moment you arrive. I wanted to understand this corner of the Caribbean at a deeper level, and Moon Palace Jamaica Grand gave me exactly that opportunity.
The Perfect Balance of Adventure and Relaxation

What struck me most about the resort was its peaceful atmosphere combined with upscale amenities and exceptional service. With approximately 700 guestrooms and suites, beautiful ocean views, inviting pools, and a stunning beachfront setting, it offered everything I could want while still feeling connected to the beauty and spirit of Jamaica. One thing that surprised me was how safe it felt. I would frequently go to the gym in the evenings and walk around the resort without any concerns. The staff were genuinely helpful and always greeted guests with warm smiles.
And then there was the food. I thoroughly enjoyed the variety of dining options and the opportunity to experience delicious Jamaican flavours alongside international cuisine. The quality really stood out to me, and there was always something tempting to discover. But my favourite spot quickly became The Boulangerie. Whether I was stopping in first thing in the morning for a specialty coffee, popping by in the afternoon for a sweet treat, or enjoying one of their tempting desserts in the evening, it became part of my daily ritual. The array of pastries, cakes, and treats was hard to resist. Those seemingly small moments became some of the most memorable parts of my vacation.
Exploring Beyond the Resort

One of the highlights of staying in Ocho Rios was experiencing some of Jamaica's most iconic attractions. I visited Dunn's River Falls, one of Jamaica's most famous natural wonders. Climbing the cascading falls surrounded by lush tropical scenery was an unforgettable experience, and one I would absolutely recommend to adventurous travellers. I also had a fantastic, interactive experience at Dolphin Cove, which was located right at the resort. Getting up close and personal with the dolphins was such a fun and memorable part of my Jamaican adventures.
This is what makes Ocho Rios such a wonderful destination. You can spend the day exploring waterfalls, enjoying unique excursions, and experiencing the local culture, then return to the comfort of your resort to enjoy a delicious dinner, unwind by the ocean, and simply relax. During my first visit, I stayed a full seven nights, and during the second, just three nights. Both stays confirmed the outstanding quality of the food, the service, and the rooms. I would say it's a very luxurious resort, though there isn't a whole lot of entertainment at night. But for anyone who wants to kick back and truly relax, it's a grand choice.
Who Would Love This Experience

I think couples celebrating a honeymoon or milestone celebration would truly appreciate this resort. A girlfriend getaway would be wonderful here as well. It offers a great balance of being in a very luxurious environment with exceptional amenities, great food, and attentive service, all with Dolphin Cove right on site and easy access to attractions like Dunn's River Falls and Mystic Mountain.
My tip for anyone visiting? Don't plan every minute of your stay. A common mistake is filling the itinerary with excursions because there is so much to see and do. Choose one or two must-do experiences and leave the rest of your time open. Spend a morning slowly enjoying your coffee at The Boulangerie, find a quiet spot by the ocean, indulge in a leisurely lunch, and let the afternoon unfold. The Jamaican hospitality is remarkable, and the food is truly some of the best in the world. Having lived these experiences myself, from the excitement of Dunn's River Falls to quiet moments overlooking the Caribbean, I can help my clients enjoy the moment and make the most of their time in this beautiful corner of Jamaica.
