We Handed Over the Honeymoon Planning and Found Peace
The jeep had come to a stop on a stretch of beach I didn't know existed. Our guide on the Cabo Pulmo tour had pulled off the road, pointed toward the water, and simply said, "This is yours." There was no one else there. Just sand, sea, and the two of us standing at the edge of the Pacific with absolutely nothing on the agenda. We looked at each other, kicked off our shoes, and jumped in.
That moment, swimming in the ocean on a completely remote beach with my new spouse, is the image I keep coming back to when I think about our honeymoon. Not because it was the most extravagant thing we did, but because it was exactly what we needed after months of wedding planning madness. We weren't checking anything off a list. We weren't running late to a reservation. We were just there, together, in the water, finally exhaling.
A Trip Without a Single Worry
We went to Cabo with one goal: to be completely relaxed. That might sound simple, but after the chaos of preparing for our wedding, relaxation felt almost impossible. We didn't have the mental bandwidth to research restaurants, book activities, or figure out logistics. We just wanted someone to handle it all. So we told our advisor what we enjoyed doing, and she took it from there. Every dinner, every excursion, every detail, already sorted before we even boarded the plane.
Her recommendation of a fully staffed villa changed everything. When we decided we wanted to do something spontaneous, our butler Leo made it happen. No phone calls, no scrambling, no stress. Just a simple request and suddenly the day had a new shape. That kind of freedom, where you can change your mind without consequence, is something I didn't know I was missing until I had it.
Moments That Caught Us Off Guard
On our last night, we walked out to the back patio before dinner and heard music. A mariachi band was playing just for us. I don't know when they arranged it or how they knew, but standing there listening to them play as the sun went down felt like a gift. It was the kind of surprise that could only come from someone paying close attention to the details of our trip, and it was the perfect way to close out the week.
One dinner that stands out was at Flora Farms. It was our advisor's recommendation, and the moment we walked in we understood why. The restaurant was beautiful in a way that felt natural rather than staged, and the food was some of the best we had the entire trip. It was one of those places that makes you want to linger over every course, which we absolutely did.
The Start of Something New
This trip allowed us to be completely relaxed after everything we'd been through. And more than that, it was such a beautiful start to our new lives together. I wasn't thinking about vendor payments or seating charts or timeline adjustments. I was thinking about my partner, about the ocean, about mariachi music drifting across a patio at dusk.
It was 100% worth it to know that we had someone who knew the area we were traveling to, someone who had our back before and during the entire trip. That peace of mind is something I didn't fully appreciate until I was standing on that empty beach, realizing I hadn't stressed about a single thing in days.
We already have a few trips planned, but knowing Cabo is just a two-hour flight from home, it's definitely on our radar again. The honeymoon wasn't an ending. It was a beginning, the first of what I hope will be many adventures where we hand over the planning and simply show up ready to be present. That's what travel should feel like. And now we know exactly what that means.
